A time when I feel like I was at my best would have to be this past summer. There are two fields that I have a particularly strong passion for, one being electrical and the other mechanical. For the past three summers I worked at an automotive shop and for the most part I'd done basic oil changes, tire repairs, new tires, and anything else that came up on the full service. But the guy above me had recently gotten a new job prior to this summer so I got the chance to step up to the plate in terms of the work I was doing. It was all stuff I'd helped do before so I was confident in my abilities and the fact that my boss was too really made me feel good about myself. I loved going to work, knowing that with each stride I had a purpose and people came to me looking for advice and instruction. It was great coming to work knowing that I'd do anything from putting in a new radiator, alternator, or starter to doing a transmission flush or air conditioner recharge. My stride was solid and sure of itself and that's why I believe I was at my best this past summer.
I'm like the complete opposite here. I really can't do much with cars when it comes to the mechanical things. I can do some things with the exterior and some with the electrical like sound systems and stuff, but it sounds like you can do a lot more than that. It's also a good thing that you like going to your job, that's the first step to really having a good job. I hope that you can keep that up to make some money during college.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll have to hit you up if my car breaks down again.
It's awesome that you were so confident in your abilities. I think that is really important with anything you do and it is really great that you like your job so much. I hope that continues and I hope you have a great time at Iowa State!
ReplyDeleteAustin,
ReplyDeleteI love how much passion you have for this job. When you find what you really enjoy at, it makes the job so much easier. I hope that when you graduate from Iowa State you will find a career that will give you the same satisfaction as this one! Good luck!
Way to go Austin! This sounds like a great experience and a great way to express yourself, master your abilities and gain confidence. I'm with Alex saying if my baby breaks down you may be the first person I call! :)
